Six Ways That You Can Keep Your Rental Warm For Less

There are many perks that come along with renting a home. Your landlord will be responsible for making all of the repairs. This can help you save a lot of money. However, you will still be responsible for paying for your heating. The good news is that there are several ways that you can warm your rental without breaking the bank.

1. Turn down the thermostat

Even if you turn the thermostat down by one degree, you will still be able to save money. In fact, turning your thermostat down by one degree can help you save 6 percent on your energy bill. You may also want to invest in a programmable thermostat. The thermostat will automatically make adjustments based on the settings.

2. Make the most out of your heat

There are a few changes that you can make that will help you get the most out of your heat. For example, you want to make sure that nothing is blocking your radiator. You may need to move your furniture around.

3. Reduce the heat loss

Heat can be lost through doors and large windows. The landlord is not responsible for fixing draughts. You can reduce heat with draught excluders and thicker curtains. You can even put foil behind the radiators. This will help keep the heat reflecting back into the room. Additionally, you will need to put insulation film around your windows.

4. Pay by direct debits

You may be able to get a huge discount if you make your payment by direct debit. You may be able to save $100 per year if you do this. You can also sign up to get your electric and gas bills sent directly to your inbox. Not only can this help you save money, but it is also good for the environment.

5. Turn off the radiator

It is a good idea for you to turn off the radiator when you are not in the room. You should focus on heating the rooms that you use the most often. However, if you are going to turn off the radiator, then it is a good idea for you to ventilate the room. This will prevent them from becoming too damp, which can cause mold to grow.

6. Cover up

You may not have to rely on your heating system as much if you put on layered clothing. The right clothing can help your body retain heat. You will also need to invest in thermal underwear.

You can potentially save a lot of money if you follow the aforementioned tips.
