What Bitcoin Is And How To Get A Job Related To Digital Currency

As Bitcoin grows older and becomes more mainstream, jobs related to this digital currency have been increasing. Hedge fund organizations and private investors are also becoming more attracted to Bitcoin, and that creates a more robust job market for this technology.

Understanding Bitcoin

Before exploring jobs in Bitcoin and related digital currencies, it’s essential to understand what this technology is. Bitcoin is a digital currency that was created in order to bypass the limitations posed by banks and financial institutions that are involved in traditional sales transactions.

You could argue that standard “fiat” currencies, such as the U.S. dollar, are also used in digital form, but Bitcoin is very different. When purchasing with Bitcoin, you are not deducting from an account at a bank or other financial firm. Instead, your Bitcoin currency transaction gets recorded on a “blockchain” system. The blockchain is essentially a record of all people’s transactions, not just your own, that are stored in blocks of data in a continuous chain.

This data blockchain is duplicated and shared among a vast network of computers that are located all around the world. It may seem counter-intuitive to share your financial transactions with millions of computers, but this peer-to-peer system has built-in security, including encryption, that makes it even more secure in some ways than a traditional bank system. Since there is no central agency that has dominion over your data, the blockchain system also provides a level of anonymity that prevents governments and corporations from tracking your purchasing history.

The invention of Bitcoin and its blockchain system has led to many technological advancements that expedite business transactions with a decentralized, rapid and secure technology. Bitcoin and related technologies are becoming rapidly more mainstream, and this has opened many career paths for people who are interested in the tech side of finance.

Seeking a career in Bitcoin

As blockchain technology becomes more sophisticated and versatile, there is a growing list of job skills that are sought after by employers who want to create their own digital currencies and utilize blockchain technology to enhance their business operations. The most obvious skill that you might guess is in demand would be coders who can use computer language to develop cryptocurrency platforms. Another skill is understanding initial coin offerings, which are a high-tech version of providing the public a stake in a startup company in a way that is analogous to a stock option, but all done on a blockchain system.

Other jobs related to cryptocurrencies include marketing, research, operations, product management, sales and many other traditional aspects of business where one would need to also understand the technological aspects where blockchain and digital currency are involved. Since Bitcoin and other similar currencies are being adopted by more companies both large and small, one can find many opportunities by searching job posting sites with terms such as “blockchain,” “ICO” (initial coin offering) and “cryptocurrency.” Since this is still a niche field, it also pays to get involved in the field and use networking tactics to find opportunities by word of mouth.
